Take on Seminoles Football in '08

What a year it has been for the Seminoles in 2008. I have to say first off that I was glad we didn't have to start the year on a Monday night against a big opponent like Miami or Clemson, that was getting old fast. The schedule was back to normal though, and I have to be honest here, I didn't really know what to expect coming into the season.

We have a new quarterback starting in Christian Ponder. To bench a senior quarterback for a sophmore is a gutsy move, but Jimbo would not have done it if he did not think he was the best man for the job. Ponder came out and impressed me. He is young and is still learning, but looking back, I agree with the decision and was, for the most part, happy with Ponder's play.

Third game in to the season and the first test was Wake Forest at home. Now we were going to see where the offense truely was. And they were no where to be found. It was this game that I thought Jimbo had made a mistake in putting Ponder in at quarterback. The defense did everything they could and kept the Noles in the game, but never could fight back and there is loss #1.

Jimbo sticks with his guns and Ponder still starts and bounces back for four straight wins against Colorado, at Miami, at NC State, and Virginia Tech. Now at this point I am lovong the direction the Noles are going and was hyped for the Georgia Tech game.

The Georgia Tech game was a heartbreaker as we all know. FSU should have, and did win that game, if not for a fumble in the endzone. I was shocked and couldn't believe it. I just knew it might haunt us in the future and did. Winning that game would have put us in the ACC chamionship game and who knows what could have happened then.

The two other losses to Boston College and Florida hurt as well. I will say this, please burn the black uniforms. Those uniforms are not Florida State. Keep the traditional uniforms from now on please. Florida was just too good this year, but look out for us in the future UF.

All in all, this year was an improvement for the Seminoles. We have the youngest offensive line in the country, a slew of young quarterbacks that are still developing, and not one, but two young running backs that can make some noise. The defense is always the Seminoles defense and I look for them to reload again next year.

I love the direction of the program and look forward to next year and an ACC crown.

Take on Seminoles Football in '08

Just when I was ready to rip into somebody, reading this taught me I am not alone. Watching the 2008 FSU football team I saw things from the that has been missing for a long time. Things like a team playing 4 quarters of football. Or, players that give 110% on every play. The biggest thing I saw from this squad were PLAY MAKERS making plays! These young guns get the ball and immediately turn their noses to the goal line.

I'm drooling at night thinking about the '09 season.

I will say this, please burn the black uniforms I think they look awesome, they do. They have a voodoo curse on them though. Burn 'em

Take on Seminoles Football in '08

great post!

With the '08 season over, I look back with pride and ahead with excitement and anticipation. I expect we'll take another step forward in 2009 (maybe 10 wins or more and an appearance in the ACC championship game) and by 2010 we should be right back up at the top competing for a National Championship. Who knows? - maybe my predictions will come to fruition a year ahead of schedule, but with Tebow back at UF and the rivalry headed to Gainesville next year, we'lll need all the breaks to win that late season clash, I think. Plus VT and Miami have young
teams coming back and we need to figure out how to beat those dadgum WF Deacons too.

We took alot of steps in 2008 - we learned how to win in many ways... even in defeat. I'm in the minority, probably, but I don't think we deserved to win the GT game... without GT's qb going down, I don't think our D gets the stops it achieved in the 4th quarter that day and GT scores more TDs than we can outscore in our comeback. We only deserved to win the game once we put together the final two offensive drives of the game and found ourselves on the 5 with a minute to go..... however, to be the team we want to be, we may need to have a game over the course of the season that winds up in our win column even though we didn't 'deserve' the W. Anyhow, what I really liked in the GT game (and several others where we fell behind by 10 or more points) was that we played hard through the final whistle.

I'm bothered by only one trend I've seen in FSU football over the past few years.... we tend to not play our best football in November. I know alot of that has to do with the schedule, but dropping 3 of our last 5 games like we did this year is unacceptable. We need to finish strong next year and I hope alot of our offseason work will push us in that direction.

Go Noles!!!
